I seem to hear a lot about how the two are similar...

Undoubtedly, just about everyone here has heard 'OMG WTH BBQ!! Balto and LK are SOOOO alike!!! -gaspgasp-' After extensive research (like not paying attention in maths) I noticed some vast differences between the movies.



Let's start with the first Lion King and the first Balto.



1. Simba was the heir to the throne and had everybody on his side, except a few individuals. Balto was completely outcast, except, again, for a few individuals.



2. TLK's villian, Scar, wanted power. Steele, however, wanted Balto's love interest as well.



3. Scar was somewhat outcast, while Steele was extremely popular.



4. Balto's mother, Aniu, didn't have a huge role in the movie unlike Mufasa. In fact, she wasn't even revealed until WQ came out, so she probably wasn't even 'created' when B1 was made.



5. Simba and Nala were supposedly 'intended to be together', while Balto and Jenna's love was somewhat forbidden.





That's all I have right now ^^ Feel free to add some more in your comments, and keep an eye out for the differences between the two sequel movies - Wolf Quest and Simba's Pride!

I see the only think I don't get is number four because Aniu was in that one. I know it was her because on WOC the game on the dvd you had to answer the question to complete the bridge and Aniu said if it was right or not and in the corner was the pic of the white wolf from B 1

Aleu. Is there any source that actually says "The White Wolf is Balto's mother"? I personally think they are the same wolf (Phil Weinstein, I believe it was, said Aniu was intended to be the original white wolf) but there is no solid proof that that was what the original (keyword: ORIGINAL) animators thought.
