Starclaw : Balto looks a lot older in WQ then in Balto. I've listed the differences here:
1) In the first movie, Balto has a scruffy, stray-dog look. In the second movie, he has an old, rounded, well-groomed look.
2) The posters and facial expressions that we so loved lack in WQ.
3) He is voiced by a different person *screams* WHAT HAPPEND TO KEVIN BACON??!!!
Sorry that's all I have. Thank you to all who answered my question.

He is older is WQ. He became a hero in the first film and was petted a lot and got groomed. The film makers couldn't afford Kevin Bacon again. |

What we need to remember is that the first movie and the sequels had different animators, so obviously, the style would have changed a fair bit. The animators also didn't have the money they needed to do the best they could with WQ. Although, even if there were different people working on the film, they probably did try to make Balto look more cared for and older. Also, in the second movie, Balto's original voice actor was replaced by Maurice LeMarche. |

The fist movie and the second movie are years apart. 6 or so.. don't remember what year the second movie came out in.. And after Balto became a hero in the first movie, the people trusted him more, so they probaly brushed him. |

They did make the second and third movie quite a few years after, so that may be one reason for the whole looks thing. I agree with you about Kevin Bacon. His voice may have changed between the years. Plus, throughout the movies, he is getting older, so that may be an excuse. |

I think that they also changed his voice to show that time is passing by and he's getting older thus his voice changed. I cant help but saying that he sounds like an old man in the third.. sorry. He kind of does though. Don't catch me wrong.

I agree with I love Aleu, BUT the well groomed part. I hate animators sometimes. |

Great article. But, the reason is that there's a large difference between the two movies. The release date. Balto 1, in 1995-1996 and Balto 2; 2001-2002..
