I don't think they had dog booties in the 20's...

Word up cat. For real, dog booties? In the '20's? Not likely. And come on guys, it's a cartoon, not real life. I could, if I tried hard enough, find about 2000 continuity and factual errors with the movie, not the least of which is the total fabrication about who Balto even is. Just give the animators and storytellers a break: that's why it's a story.

Saborbone --> Which dogs wore booties? The ones from the rich family? if so, well, then there you go. Nome isn't/wasn't exactly "high class" back then XD Besides, do you see any snow booties here "http://fluke.theicecave.org/realbalto9.jpg"? Or here "http://fluke.theicecave.org/realbalto5.jpg"? And it is also WIDELY known on this site, that the real Balto's feet became wet at one point and if he were wearing booties at the time, the risk of them being frozen would not have been such a big deal (just remove the booties and VOILA) Even if they did have booties back then, they were probably for the sole purpose of letting the dog still run, but not let their injured paw get any worse. But like HrryNrmn said, IT'S JUST A CARTOON -_- Cartoon animals don't require realistic characteristics.

well, thinking about it: Yes, they did have booties in the 20s. But then again, I'm thinking back to the original Balto story. At one point, Balto stopped because he was standing in water and wouldn't continue forward. Kaasen had been very worried and immediately dried off his paws. Perhaps he wasn't wearing booties at that time. But being a smart musher, Kaasen definately would have put them on all the dogs. The booties do fall of very easily.

I guess they could have, but in the actualy pictures of Balto and his teams and all the other teams...they didn't have anything on their feet, so it was ok for the animators to leave it out.

because it wasnt officially the iditarod yet...the iditarod wasnt thought of until 1973....therefore they did not have all the manditory stuff for the iditarod

Well even if they did'nt have booties back then the booties arent just to keep the dogs feet warm. Booties are worn when the dog has run a long distance and the pads of thier paws are cut and begin to bleed. None of the dogs in balto got hurt so there was no need for booties.
