Are you american? Are you sad that the Balto dvd isn't widescreen? Read this...

This is an article dedicated to the american people. As you probably not know, the US dvd (region 1) is a pan & scan version (4/3, fullscreen). This is a really bad format, because to get this aspect ratio, the picture has been altered to fit the screen.
However, the european dvd (region 2), or the dvd which was released in any other country than the US, is a 16/9 widescreen version, which is much more accurate to the original aspect ratio of the film.

Also, the non-US dvd contains a pretty interesting documentary about the making and the story of Balto, which was planned to be on the US dvd but is not in fact on the dvd.

Now, some of you may be interested in getting this non-US dvd. That's why I have written this article.
In fact, you can get any Balto dvd from any country except the US (and canada I believe), because the english track is always on the dvd.
However, you may not be able to play dvds from another region on your american dvd player. There are tricks to be able to play dvds from different regions (some home dvd players can, some need a mod chip, you may try to play it on a PC dvd drive with special playing softwares, ...)
But the best solution would be to get the Brazilian dvd, because it hasn't got any region and so it can play on any american dvd player.

I rather fullscreen then widescreen. First you see the screen beter than when you watch the widescreen format. Infact any bigger format is better. I honestly think that there only should be a fullswcreen format and no widescreen format. What's the point of selling a smaller format.

I think you didn't read the article carefully. The reason is that in theaters, the films are made in widescreen format, which is the real format of the film. When they make them fullscreen to fit the 4/3 ratio of a TV, a good part of the screen is entirely lost, so you won't see characters on the edge for example. Besides, putting black bars gives a more "cinematic" feeling, while fullscreen is better for saturday morning cartoons. Finally, the perfect ratio for a human is close to 16/9, that's why many TV are now in that format. It's the most natural ratio.

Yes, widescreen is better than fullscren because widescreen catch the edges of the movie, so you can see completely whats up on the sides.

I saw that kind of Widescreen here in Romania at the Market where I live.I have Balto 2 DVD and It's quite good.:P
