This article is about the difference between Balto's run, and Togo's work. Who REALLY deserved the statue?

During the Iditarod dog run, Balto had been one of the last dogs to run the Serum. Being the last team to run the medicine, and bringing it to Nome, Balto's team was the most famous, and loved.
But another team may have done more! Togo - the brindled, and patched husky led his team proudly during the year of 1925. He was an older dog, and very experienced.
why was there a dispute? Togo, because of his age, and the hard work that the race put on him, died shortly thereafter. The trail had taken its toll on him. Balto, on the other hand, survived, and basked in the love of the children of Nome. Balto DID do a lot of work, though. He had run many miles, and had braved many storms, cracking ice, frostbite.
At the end of the race, Seppaluh and Gunnar had a conversation, trying to decifer who's dog REALLY did the greatest amount of work. In the end, it was the town of nome that decided.
But, even though Balto's carved figure stands in the city of New York, Togo's spirit lives on. You can see togo in his preserved state in a museum, belonging to a chain of 'Smithsonian.'

Added by wolfhound : After balto/togo's 'big run' so to say, they put Balto in the circus. The Cleveland ohio children heard what they were doing to Balto and the Cleveland children had a school fundraisor and bought balto. But now alaska wants him back.

The race Togo did more work. But Balto probably suffered for a while afterwords. But Togo died so he didn't suffer much.

in the book "The Cruelest Miles" by Gay Salisbury, the issue of Balto vs. Togo is explained in more detail. If you want to learn more about the serum run and the Balto/Togo dispute, you should read it. it is a very good book, but young children wouldn't like it much.

balto wasnt put in a circus! he and the other dogs were in a meuseum (forget which one) and the cleaveland kids heard about and had a fundraiser to save him and the dogs°x° :/:
