I found a link on the Iditarod website containing pictures of dog that looks like Steele.

I remember reading in an older article a debate on whether or not Steele is a malamute. I agree with the fans that thought Steele looks more like a big husky than a malamute due to his eyes not being almond-shaped and his head too narrow. While looking for more information on the real Balto, I found this website with a picture of a Siberian husky named Zuma the K-9 Reporter. Zuma's color, face, markings, and eyes look almost exactly like Steele's!

Yea, it does! Also, Max was the dog that looked like Steele, I saw Eight Below the first day! It was AWESOME!

The animators can'tbe perfect, give them a break. Steele is in fact a malamute. His is larger than the other dogs (which are huskies) and has a curled tail like all malamutes

JennaHuskie -> 'Max' is actually 'DJ', the dog who also played 'Demon' in Snow Dogs. Steele and 'Max' don't really look alike. As for 'Max' is shorter, in many ways, and more plup. Although they had similar markings.
