Well, in school in socials I just finished the 'Napoleon' unit. For those who don't know who Napoleon was, he was a French leader. Well I just thought of something: Napoleon and Steele are alike in many ways:
*Napoleon endures the harsh Russian winter, just like Steele journeying back to Nome.
*Napoleon was very overconfident, just like Steele.
*Both were very greedy; Steele never listened to what his sled team had to say, and same for Napoleon.
*Steele lost trust from his team which abandoned him because of this. This much like how some of Napoleon's staff abandoned him.
Okay, so now your question is 'Yeah, ummm....what's the point?' Well all I was wondering is if you thought the director based Steele's character on Napoleon or if this was all just a coincidence. (Please be nice when leaving comments!)
Steele isn't named randomly...

I'm sure it was a coincidence. While those similarities may be true, none are really very significant. |

Napoleon was not a French leader, per se. He was a French MILITARY leader who lead the French Invasion of Russia in 1812. Another inaccuracy is that Napoleon's men lost trust in him during the invasion. They couldn't lose faith in him, out of approximately 422,000 men, only 1,000 made it out of Russia alive and this isn't counting the men who died in Poland after they get out of Russia. Most died from cold and several gave up their clothing to keep Napoleon warm and died of hypothermia from that move. Sorry, I'm a total history nerd. |
