I decided to see what, if anything, I could find. I did a quick search on Google, and here's what I got. Shelby Steele- Hoover Institute, author of books about race relations Remmington Steele- 1980's TV detective show Michael Steele- Republican candidate for Senate from Maryland Jennifer Steele- Adult XXX model George "The Animal" Steele- professional wrestler and member of the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame Guy L. Steele- Computer scientist Note that this list is by no means complete and there are many corporations and even places with Steele in the title or name. Indeed, there have been and are many people who hold that name. So, in conclusion, I would think that yours is simply a happy coincidence, although I do not know where the real name came from. |

Well, most of the names they have, were taken from Alaska as far as I can see. I mean, Balto's name was a given. But like in Balto II, they most likely got the name 'Aleu' from the Aleutian Islands, or the people. And in Balto III, Kodi (aka 'Kodiak').. they have a town called Kodiak. And I don't remember, but I think there might be an island named Kodiak too. But please don't hold that to me. There are many ways they could have gotten the name Steele. --Mayaaa |

He was most likely named after Mt. Steele, a mountain in Alaska. A lot of the chars are named after alaskan-realted places and landmarks. Steele - Mt. Steele Kaltag - Kaltag is a town southeast of Nome Aleu - The Aleutian islands a little south of Alaska Kodiak - Kodiak island is also a little south of Alaska |

Offhand, I'm guessing that they named him for his thick skull. BTW, Rylie, I've got a hunch you missed someone. Is it possible the original Balto was named for the Baltic Sea? I could be wrong. |

I think that it is merely a coincidence, and that Steele was named that because he is supposed to be tough, like steel, only the wording "steele" is actually a name, like the producers wanted it to be.
