Balto - Analysis

Shall Universal improve?

harpier :

As we all know, Balto franchise belongs to Universal Pictures. However, such wonderfull movie franchise had never been not took seriously by that company. For instance, all the advertising of the movies was never done correctly, leading to the fact that most people (at least in my country) probably never heard about the franchise, so they perhaps will never apreciate it's magnificense and greatness (although Balto III: Wings of Change was aired on TV; neverless, I think it just happened once, in contrast to Barbie: Mermadia, which aired hundreds of times). In adition, Universal comited the blasphemy of making an extreamly bad DVD for the original Balto, something that a petition tried to change (but I highly doubt that this project succeds, since Universal Pictures' staff will try to do anything to fool us). All of this leads to the conclusion that Universal didn't even move a straw to make Balto a successfull franchise, and unfortunately it seems that it is doomed to be forgot forever (unless we teach the future generations to apreciate to greatness of Balto). And Balto is not alone: several other Universal's franchises suffered or will probably suffer to same horrible fate. American Tail, for instance, is one of them; despiste the two movies and the TV series (few movie franchises are lucky enough to have one), it vanished. Another franchise waiting for it's extinction is Jurassic Park; although the first two movies (which were actually based on the Michael Chrincton's novels) were successfull, the downhill started with Jurassic Park III (that's what happens when Steven Spielberg isn't directing!) and, despiste the projects for a Jurassic Park IV, it has been in a developing hell for so long that it will probably never make it's way to the theatres and dinosaurs will really face their extinction. By talking about dinosaurs Land Before Time maybe successfull now (since it counts with a dozen movies and a TV series) but it will soonly die out as well because of the 'multiple sequel syndrome'.

Conclusion: Unirversal Pictures is a very incompetent copmpany.

Universal should stop being frigin buttheads and treat the movie franchises with the respect that so rightfully deserve.

Man! Issues! it was Universal's choice about how well they did on the franchise and such.

Universal are convinced that lovely little gems like Balto, Land Before Time, An American Tail, are just money-making kiddie fare.
For them, Balto isn't about the heroic tale of the 1925 serum run, The Land Before Time is not the dark and touching story of five young dinosaurs on a quest for paradise, An American Tail is not about a young Jewish mouse's search for his family.
For Universal, all of these films mean nothing to them. For Universal, they are just 'franchises' that can be exploited for money, and if they didn't bring in enough money (by let's say, releasing them at the same time as Toy Story) then Universal will simply trash them. The idea of that happening to my favourite films is simply too much to bear.

I know Steet, but your topic didn't include Jurassic Park did it? Anyway this proves how that company is mean, stupid and incompetent. Do you hear me Universal Pictures? És uma companhia parva e estúpida!

Sorry, but I honestly think that Universal probably won't let anyone buy the Balto's License and even so, who's gonna buy them?

Universal does have some good and bad qualities, but i think they could improve on some stuff. Like the land before time for example; the first 1 or 2 maybe 3 were good but those 20 million sequals they made all suck. balto 1 and 2 were good but the 3rd was terrible. they like need to have better ideeas or something.
i do like how thay hire good voice actors however. but i agree

This is a good article. And you're right, Balto should be treated with respect! I mean, it's like to Universal that a whole town being quarintined. That quite a few people died. That mushers and dogs face bad conditions. But eh, I might as well add Universal to the list of 'Corporations who wanna take over the world and don't care who they step on to do it'.

When I saw the Balto 3 trailer it didn't catch my interest very much but I thought, what the heck, it's Balto, I'll just buy the movie! I was disappointed with the film and more with the trailer. It was abit dull (in my opinion). I think if Universal EVER made a Balto 4, the trailer is what catches people's attention because it has the most effect on people and there opinion of the movie. Work on the trailer and make the movie kick butt! I want a Balto 4!

I knew it was too good to be true and it was awhile ago so I don't remember the site but I was browsing the net for B2 when one site said a Balto show was going to be aired. But like I said, that was awhile ago. It was PROBABLY a rumor anyways.

Also as I mentioned earlier, (or as I was trying to make a point) B3 SUCKS! In my case, I saw B2 first, which I thought rocked, then I saw B1, which rocked even more and then I saw B3. (Which was the most boring Balto movie I've seen.) So after I realized that B1 was B1 and B2 was B2, I noticed B2 needed some work. So my point is it also matters on which order you watch the movies in.

B3 did aired in some countries. But I didn't knew U.S.A. wasn't one of them.

I LOVE YOUUUUU in some ways. If Amblimation's projects had been transferred to Dreamworks like the staff was instead of just been given to Universal Animation Studios, Wolf Quest and Wings of Change would of been a lot different, and they would of kicked butt! I'm disappointed in Universal Animation Studios - they only do it for the money, and they trashed B2, so they made B3 to *try* to revive the series and earn a few bucks, but they screwed that up as well. The only way Balto will ever relive its former glory is if a) UAS (Universal Animation Studios DUHH) makes an at least DECENT attempt at a DTV, b) UAS pulls its socks up and gets working at a film release sequel/prequel, or c) the series is transferred from UAS to Dreamworks and at least makes a DTV release (film release would be awesome, but a Dreamworks DTV is good enough).
All of the Balto sequels so far have been G, and Balto was PG (maybe PG-13 in the US, not sure). UAS needs to put some realistic content in their DTVs otherwise they won't be doing anything in the future. It seems to me UAS wants to do hardly any work and rake it in - sorry, it doesn't work that way.

   harpier, August 05, 2007 at 14: 40

PG-13? Well, why would they do that?

   Tikaani Strike, August 08, 2007 at 01: 07

I know that Universal did not do enough on any level, but seriously....what can we do? Seriously, this movie is 12 years old people! I'm a big fan ofm Balto and all that, but honestly, a bunch of random people signing a petition is going to do nothing but make Universal have to type out a letter of rejection and send it out. Universal will not give a second look at this thing. It's sad but true.
That's just my opinon. ;)

   Theo the Brave, August 08, 2007 at 02: 13

I also think if Balto were Disney it would be way more popular. And there would be more Balto Plushies and a TV Show too, probably. Disney made lotsa movies into shows.

Yeah, your right. Balto is even here in Belgium not known, but that other franchises just like The Land Before Time already begins to extinction and even there is an tv series have aired I don't now.

Cobalt, Balto1 was rated G, at least in the U.S. Believe me, I have the movie and the DVD.

I don't care if Universal didn't do it right, they still don't suck! I'm sorry, but this is not a nice article in my opinion.
