Balto - Analysis

this has to prove something about aniu and the white wolf

dusty101 :

After the release of Balto II: Wolf Quest, fans everywhere began questioning Aniu's true identity.  We had been told by the creators of Wolf Quest that she was the white wolf of the original Balto.  Many fans disagreed, however, stating that she looked too different(red eyes, no black ear tips, etc).
But this is not a page listing the discrepancies between Aniu and the white wolf, it is one which will attempt to prove that Aniu's appearance is simply the result of new animators, and that she is indeed the mysterious wolf we all know and love, just in a different form.
The first picture on this page is one of the famous 'white wolf'.  The second is a screengrab of Aniu, which I edited slightly to make her appear more like the former.  However, I did nothing to her irises, which, as you can see, are clearly not red, but gold.
The beloved 'white wolf.'
Aniu, in edited form.  Does she look familiar?^^
Below is an unedited screengrab from the final scene of Wolf Quest.  Upon examining it carefully, you can see that Aniu looks fairly close to the white wolf of Balto, if you can ignore the difference of her eyes.  As I stated before, I believe that her eyes simply look different because of her new animators, who used an animation style that is not the same as in the original Balto.
Without her eyes as a factor, if that's not the white wolf, I don't know who is. ;)
I have here yet another screengrab to illustrate my points regarding new animators.  Look at the wolves behind Nava.  Three of them appear to have a similar character design to the wolves seen in Balto, although you can  tell that none of them have black coloring in their eyes.  This shows that the new animators did not utilize the same idea for the eyes as of the wolves in Balto.  Therefore, since their character design differs from the original feature, it only makes sense that the white wolf's design would have changed as well.
That wolf on the far right seems to have come right out of Balto.
Another popular argument is that Aniu is smaller than the white wolf, and is the same size as Balto.  However, I view this as a misconception.  Take for example, the image below in which I drew red lines over the length from the lower edge of each character's shoulder to the base of his/her paw, and from ear base to tip.  In both cases, the lines were longer in Aniu.  Some may blame her leg length on the scene's perspective, but her ears are still larger than her son's. I know the white wolf's ears were smaller in proportion to the size of its head, but the basic idea is still the same: Aniu is the only wolf in Wolf Quest to have pink inner ears, just as the white wolf is the only one to have pink inner ears in Balto.  Ear size and eye appearance are relative to the different wolf designs for the films.
In the game on the Balto III: Wings of Change DVD, there is a section which shows Aniu and the white wolf in the same picture.  The person's voice speaking on the game says something along the lines of 'Each time you answer a question correctly, the white wolf will help you rebuild part of the bridge.'  In each individual section of the game, the character featured in that section is pictured in the lower left corner.  So, in this game at least, Aniu is the 'white wolf spirit'(the latter is how the character is described at the start of this game section).
The creators of this game aren't associated with the films themselves, but I'm sure Universal had to pre-approve the game before it went on the DVDs.  If they had wanted Aniu and the white wolf to be seperate characters, they wouldn't have allowed the white wolf's picture in the corner.

You've got my whole viewpoint up here! I've always blamed the animators for the differences. If they had just payed more attention, maybe we wouldn't have so much trouble on the forums, the site or anywhere else on the internet.

It's not true. In a chat with an original animator from Balto, they declared that the white wolf wasn't Balto's mother, and that since there was different animators for the second movie, they did that whole Aniu/White wolf thing. So they're not the same, THE END. >>

I don't believe you copied anything. There are only some many ideas in the world. I love this article! Aniu is the same wolf!!!!

Chance{Felcita}--> It was a chat ONLINE no one knows whose talking to you on the other side! Quit being naive! Its 99% more likely to be a stupid poser fanatic! Since some retard on a chat room, that you believe to be an "original animator" from Balto, said that Aniu wasn't Balto's mother does NOT make it true! Don't be gullible!

Um, I think you should take that back. THIS WAS IN A LIVE INTERVIEW, thank you very much. Now, you willing to apologize? Because I'm not as stupid as you think.

chance and twilight--> stop fighting i dont care about that i just wanted to let people know what i think

We weren't fighting. One of us said something, the other disagreed, the other proved their point. Anyways, I like your theory, and this is a very well written article. I wouldn't be surprised if it was true. Anyways, to continue what I was saying, it depends who you ask. Balto 2 animators(I haven't had the chance to find any interviews that involved them) might say that yes they are, but The original Balto 1 animators say no, that the first white wolf had no relation to Balto. But then Balto 2 animators made it so "she" did.

Yeah that's Aniu.. But anyway.. It is rare to see a sequel with the carracters that are exactly the same as the original movie.. Take a look to Balto.. He changed a lot between the original and the sequel..He's not draw the same way, not the same colors, not the same body, not the same eyes.. etc. And Jenna also.. She became more bigger than the original.. Muk and Luk changed also.. Look at the noses.. And boris, he changed too. Anyway,,

Chance{Felcita}--Maybe the Balto 1 animators didn't mean for the White Wolf to be Balto's mother, but it's the Balto 2 animators who gave her name and made her Balto's mother. you should talk to THEM for proof.
