These are old sketches of Mel & Dipsy, when they were working on their designs. I must say that I'm pretty glad they didn't turn out like that...(even if it's very well drawn)

I think they are actually more real than Balto style, and they do have a certain caricature style to them, honestly how can you hate them?

Although they don't fit the Balto style I think they are very well drawn and well thought out character designs. You can see how they influenced the characters', that were used, designs. :p I've also thought concept art was neat, just to see how much change occured during the pre-production.

Well obviously they have to try out different looks, and this look is kinda cool. Just different, that's all. I think a different style of concept art is interesting to see, because it's not typical. :)

I think the artist's work is being treated unfairly here; a lot of you seem to be under the impression that these images would have been literally translated into the film. Even if these designs had been the final picks, they wouldn't have been animated in this style. That's just the artist's personal flavor; it may not be to everyone's taste, but I think some of you are overreacting a bit. :p

I like the Arctic turns the most personally Dipsy is too fatlol and Well Mel is to big for his little worrying dog personality He looks to scrapy and dipsy is out of the question that would really put a drop in Balto films.But over all The Balto film is good and Dipsy gave me something to laugh about

I agree with Greykitty. Honestly, the art itself has no real flaws yet for the film, the versions that the creators chose fit their parts better. It's not right to insult the work shown. >>

Everyone has their own style and opinion, you cannot really judge art on who is the "best", like my art teacher said there are no grades in art. Although these would have looked a bit odd in a balto film I think in another they would work out... some how.

To the Animation Nation people looking at this, including Jasen Strong -> I'm the webmaster of the site, and yes I'm a bit sorry that people made awful comments about your work. The truth is, as you said, these drawing does not fit the style of Balto, but that does not prevent them from being really good drawings, at least to me. If you wish to take a look at the fans drawings, just check the "Fan art" section on this site ;)

Thanks Street- I have no hard feelings at all on my side. I respect how honest everyone was here. I never really know what the reaction is going to be when I first show my work, sometimes it goes better then expected & other times my work is beaten far worse then I’ve seen here. I’ll always try to give work that is hopefully fresh, sometimes that might backfire trying something that might even be too different. I took a test for the L.A.P.D. to become a cop a few years ago, but flunked the first test. If it wasn’t for that flop, I wouldn’t even have been forced to become an artist. Drawing for a living has been the most gratifying and the most painful, sometimes in the same year. Sometimes I still to this day even question if this is the right field for me. I just respect and love people that can illustrate & sketch well. When I was in high school I hung out with a bunch of guys that all could sketch amazing comic’s characters, I was so jealous because I wasn’t even close to being an artist yet. Funny cause when I was working at Dreamworks, even passing all the reviews & getting the job, all of those high school feelings of not being able to draw well came rushing in again. And currently that is where I am today…jealous once again, that I can’t draw like some of the original Balto Crew and countless other animation artists. Thanks for the time & effort on starting a site that is full of enthusiasm to the craft. Best regards, Jasen :)

gorgeous work! this work is too good for the final film. too unique, too distinct. i'd love to see a short with this style. nice fluidity. i'm amazed at some of the trashing on here. there's a thick line between criticism and bashing. thick as that line is, some morons still crossed it. ciao.

It's very well done, Dipsy as a cocker spaniel and Mel as a beagle, is it beagle? I'm guessing so, would of been interesting. I think most of the comments here are negative because they're used to the Balto 1 style ;/.
