Hello, Balto Sourcians. I apologize, yet again, for my lack of posts to the Fan News.
First of all, I would like to inform you that the moderators are discussing fan image "renders." The current discussion is whether or not they should be allowed. The following is now the status for "renders" (what is not allowed):
-Unedited screenshots
-Badly modified screenshots
-Drawings
-Real photos
-Stolen images
-Images of creatures not related to Balto
-Images not giving proper citation.
Also, I will be running the Fan Arts and Images "corner" rather differently now. I will, each week, "feature" two artists (this is similar to "artist of the day," but not quite). In agreement to that, I will also choose a picture from the artists' galleries to feature, as well (this goes for both fan art and fan images, so I will be featuring four galleries a week).
I will also be posting art tips and guides, along with fan images, as I have done on this forum topic. Also, feel free to PM me any questions about art techniques, tips, or something you would like to be discussed.
I will start this "change" soon, so look forward to it!

I like the idea of "featuring" two artists! |

I like this. However, can you clarify what you mean by "real photos"? I think historical photos from the serum run, especially of Balto, Togo, Fritz, Leonhard Seppala, Gunnar Kaasen and the others should be permitted in forum topics, articles, and other fan works, and in avatars, signature images and banners. So long as no one is putting their names or screen names on them, or claiming those photos as their own. |

Sepp, She means, you can't post an un edited picture of a real photo. They have to be in a banner etc. |
Sounds good, Kirada^^ |

Sepp: Well, that's pretty basic know-how. But, I thank you - because I know notice how bland it is. Photos in relation to the Serum Run, as long as they are edited, WILL BE ALLOWED. I'll be sure to post it when I feature next. |

I really don't like the idea of renders at all here, to be honest. Then members start complaining that they cannot draw, and stick only with editing photos which can lead to problems on other sites (mostly because editing/recoloring isn't allowed). I think that covering up the idea of edits with the name 'rendering' and making it sound like a good thing isn't the best idea. Perhaps it should be scratched so that more people can and will actually try with their artwork, and develop their own style instead of using the Balto screenshots for a crutch, but perhaps not. Would it sound foolish if I threw out an opinion of replacing the 'renders' section with a 'tutorials' section? |

Okay, Kirada, thanks! Er...what still concerns me is that I have an avatar image of the real Togo, which I sometimes use in that capacity. There is no writing on it at all, no alteration. So...Kirada...can I continue to use that? Because I was thinking of changing back to it soon. |

Wait a minute RayJ...You say you don't like renders but you do them too!! No cruelness here, just saying. |
But not as a substitute for real artwork. I prefer not to leech off other's artwork and call it my own, hence why there's very few renders in my gallery. |

Eerr...Kidra wold the Fan images in the following links count as following count as "drawings" in renders? http://baltosource.timduru.org [...] er_s_Sacrifice/2-1-768-21.html http://baltosource.timduru.org/image/ShebaWolf1_Felan/2-1-768-19.html< /a> I also like the idea of featuring 4 galleries, where will they appear? Thanks Sheba |
Well that's true RayJ.... |

Sheba: The second one is a "render," while the first one is an edited screen capture. ANY IMAGE TAKEN FROM THE SCREEN CAPTURES OF "BALTO" AND EDITED ARE FAN IMAGES. By "drawings," it means things you drew on MS Paint or by hand (or another program) that is YOUR OWN WORK. |
Kirada - If "drawings" are technically your own work, then "edits" technically aren't, right? Why are they allowed? |
I thought that was the case, I just wanted to make sure thanks Kirada ![]() Sheba |

real photo thingy - i went to new york city and we took tones of images of the balto statue but i haven't been able to upload them yet. would they not be accepted anymore? |

Just wondering: What does "badly modified" mean? That makes me kind of confused. |
Hmm, this is a good idea, but I don't know how long this will work for . . . *sigh* Gentle Wolf: I believe that what they mean is that "badly-modified" is a render that looks like . . . well, not very professional or like a piece that only took someone five minutes to do. In harsher words - work that looks crappy. Real renders take a lot of time and dedication to do - mine usually take between two days to several weeks! - and good renders should look as if the rendered character(s) were actually in the film specified or with a certain other character. Check out my renders (or Cat's) for good examples. - Juuchan17 |

Fair enough, I agree with those rules laid down so far. I mean they make sense when it boils down to it however confusing they may seem at first. Props for some action on that issue. |

People this is not the place to be advertising fanfics or asking for help. Morgra, point it out to the fanfic readers and leave the commenting here for rendering and artwork, to stay on subject. Huskywolf, read some FAQs or try things out for yourself. People seem incapable of doing anything here on their on these days. |
