Webmaster news :

Maybe you've already noticed it (why do I have to always start with that? ), but there's a new section on the site : fan characters. (in the left menu)
You can now "officially" create a page for each of your own characters. The goal is to allow to link your characters with your fan creations (eg : if one of your characters appear in several of your fanfics, or even fanfics from other authors, these fanfics will be listed in the character page)
In a way, it allows to create a "character search engine". (even though there's no search form yet, but the main site search engine can already find characters based on their names)
Try using the character creation page, it has been made to be simple. I have used new methods for making it, especially the upload form : just try it and you'll understand!
To avoid conflicts, you can't create characters with the same name as another character, so be sure to be the first to create your character!

Moderators, I need your help for creating all the official characters : look this page.

Of course, for now, there's something missing : you can't link your fan creations to your characters. But this will come. Just be patient.

I have also did some other changes to the site : now many pages are separated into "sections", that you can click on to hide or show. For example, if you're tired (like me) to see very long artist presentations, you can just hide this part and it will be hidden for all artists (This choice is saved even if you leave the page!) I have also put this into place to make pages clearer and with the same design.

Finally, I have added the possibility to switch to another text editor : FCK editor(the current one was named Spaw editor) This is especially for the fanfics, because it seems that Spaw editor doesn't like text copy/pasted from Word very much (FCK editor has a special option for pasting content from Word)
Just click on the link above the text editor to switch to it.

Question: since alot of people have their own versions of the 'Dingo and Saba pups' does that mean, since most are called Dingo and Saba, only One of each would be allowed in that section?

Silverkia => Good question...Well...I believe that since they ARE official characters (they have an official name) we can make official characters pages for them. Not for the other pups of course, because we don't know anything about them, not even the name. Although, if a fanfic writer feels that his "Saba" character is special, he can make a special character page for it (but he will have to name it another way, because two characters pages can't have the same name) Like "Saba from Rotramel" for example.

Nice update - I do like this new page. It's easier for people to keep track of others' characters. Will there eventually be a way to comment on the characters? I noticed that mine had faves, and I wondered if they were set up the same way as the galleries.

I like the section, it's neat. But wouldn't it be much more organized to have a section for each member to post profiles on each dog? Kind of like the Fan Fiction/Fan art sections? Where you search for a member and it has the character's they posted, like you click on their name and it takes you to a page fit with a picture if needed and other Bio information that the character owner posts? So then members wouldn't have to scroll through everything to look for specific characters out of the high numbers of pages that will come later on? And perhaps try to find certain characters and not be able to find the one their looking for because of a million others? When they could find the exact one they want by looking for the member and checking to see if they posted a character? Just a thought!

Well I have though about it, but : what's truly the point of commenting characters? I mean, commenting creations around the characters, ok : fanfics, fanarts, etc...But characters themselves? I believe it would be too much spammed with comments like "good char!"

The characters are already commented on in the shoutboxes, forums, fanart, fanfiction, articles, and literarly the whole site; both movie characters and the characters of members. So really no need, would simply generate lots of useless and doubled comments.

Hmm, this is a good idea and I understand how necessary this may be for those in the "this is my character . . . blah blah blah" arguments, but seriously, I'm not sure if I can do something like this for my own characters. (I have too many different stories and different AUs based on the Balto world . . . seriously, I do.) However, it is a nice thing for those hell-bent on protecting their own characters. Nice idea, but I doubt I'll use it. - Juuchan17

Well, I gave in and made a couple of pages . . . but I already have a problem. Is it supposed to cut how much of a description you can write for a character? I wrote a description and a brief back story for one of my characters, and it's not even on there once it went through! I am pissed . . . seriously. (No offense, Steet - I know it's still new and there's bound to be bugs in there, right?)

Yes there's a bug I'm aware of, the description is emptied if you send the character picture before the description (which is why I moved the description above) I have spent at least two hours looking for the bug with no luck so far.
