Yes you have to use them in fan sections (even if, as already specified, you can't link your characters with your fan creations for now)
As for roleplaying, there can be no direct link with the chars used in forums, so I have to say no...

i think the characers have to be used in either your fancfics or fanart. If you don't use them, they'll be removed. Or so i heard....

You HAVE to use them in fanworks. Not just to be seen. Also, roleplaying doesn't count. If you don't use them, they will be removed.
