Title : fanfic of the week

Question :
ilena12 :

Why hasnt the fanfic of the week been updated for over two months?
I'm sure many other people feel a little frustrated as it could be THEIR fanfic up there.
Also, the fan art of the week is only updated occasionally.
Why?

Best answer :
emily123 :

Steet's a very buisy guy. He'll try to update a new one when he can.

I agree, Ilena12...and I'VE posted on this before as well. And for you other folks, while steet is the one who changes it, it is the fan fiction mods (according to what has been said about this before) who make the recommendation to him.

And I need to say this AGAIN: "not having enough time" is an excuse...and a poor one at that. Maintaining a website is a responsibility. If you create a website, or are a moderator of it, you have a responsibility. Excuses are irrelevant. And there is NO excuse for a fiction being up for more than a week at a time. The fan art of the week changes USUALLY every week (or so). It should be the same for the fan fiction...period.

jerseycaptain -> So you would prefer that I would put the site offline, then? Sorry but it's not my philosophy. Better a site with a few bugs than nothing at all. Besides, this isn't even a bug.

To answer the question, this is something I have added very quickly, and I would need to update the system so that any mods can change it instantly. But it's not THAT easy, I have to take many things into consideration (like for example, putting the query into cache so that it doesn't take too much speed from the site as it's something displayed on EVERY page)

steet -> I didn't say that, now did I? You have a bad habit of reading into my statements. Not a good idea. I maintain, however, that if you create a site, you have a responsibility to maintain it, or delegate those duties to someone who can. Farm out the work to someone who can be online more, then. And who knows how...

Blackearth_BIOSHOCK -> That is a matter of perspective. It could also be construed as justifiable frustration with stuff which seems to pop up again and again. And for every revision, there seems to be a new (or recurring) glitch. That's justifiable cause to complain.

I maintain a website and forum. I am an adult, with adult responsibilities (a career, a dependent, bills to pay, etc.). And yet, I find a way to stay on top of my site. Sure, I didn't program it from scratch. But I am on regularly to deal with member concerns and problems which may crop up. And, unlike a large site populated mostly by kids and teens (who LOVE to cyberbully), I don't have to deal with constant spamming, flaming, and clique issues. Because I and my moderators keep a TIGHT rein upon the site. Does that mean we'll always have less members than the vaunted Balto Source list? Sure. And I'm happy about that. I'd rather have 30-60 GOOD members than a mostly-inactive army which consists in large part of spammers, flamers and troublemakers, or else people who show up a few times, and then never again.

Period.

Blackearth_BIOSHOCK -> When I last checked, when a person has an issue with the site, they are encouraged to respond and to register their feelings. No amount of finger-wagging and flaming from you is going to change that.

ilena12 -> Despite what Blackearth_BIOSHOCK said, with her blatant flames, I share the same frustrations you have (and others have) over the fan fiction glitches. And steet has said that he is working to correct them (in a related thread I posted recently). So don't worry about the flame. The point I made is valid, and so is yours.

And you're still flaming. AND ruining the flow of this question. Just let it GO and move on. Sheesh. Kids.
