What happened?

In TLK2 at the end of 'We are One', Nala looks behind Simba as if frightened, then looks back at Simba. Then Simba looks toward where Nala was and looks confused, then his eyes widen and he smiles and looks back at Nala. What were they looking at? It looks like the point of Pride Rock but it's empty so there must be something else.

The only thing I can think of is that the point looks kind of like the crocs that Nala and Kovu just ran from.

Actually i'm sure that this is what happened. at the beginning of the song there was a baby bird that didn't get his way. Simba was explaining to Kiara that cubs, calves, ect. can't always get their way. It's the parents who decide. So then, at the end of the song, Kiara saw that the baby bird had gotten his way, and was confused as to why. Especially after everything that simba told her. It's kind of hard to explain in writting...

Actualy, the baby bird came in after this bit, and he didnt say that kids never get there way, he said tha you may seem to be failing but that he would always stand by her side.

Look, later on in the movie Kiara says 'a wise king once told me we are one. i didnt understand him, but now i do'. Simba is looking up at the rock in his idea of a dramatic pose, Kiara is confused as to what he means by 'we are one', simba notices this and then goes 'you'll understand someday'

Well... I wouldn't say Kiara (it's KIARA, not Nala ) is confused, I think she looks quite afraid watching the priderock and thinking about herself being queen some day. Remember that, UNLIKE SIMBA, Kiara wasn't really looking forward to rule the pridelands: cub Simba: "I just can't wait to be king" cub Kiara: "can I still just be me the way I am?" Besides, I think Kiara also missed Kovu, and may be she tought that, as she was supposed to be queen of pridelands, Kovu and her would never meet again. My conclusion: while Simba watched priderock with pride, Kiara watched it with a little fear, because she wasn't sure about the choices she would have

The Pride Rock promontory, which Simba is indicating, is the lions' version of a throne. Kiara is both a bit confused by Simba's song and is reluctant/scared to take the throne. That's why she looks up at the "throne" with fear and confusion in her eyes.
