I was writing a short story just for the fun of it, and decided that it would be a good idea to use Swahili terms seen as it's set in Africa. So I searched in google for a Swahili-English translator and found a really helpful one. After a while I started to think.....where did Disney get the names for TLK? So I clicked on Swahili to English and searched for some of the names, this is what I found.

Lion-Simba
Scar-Kovu (quite scary!, Scar is Kovu in Swahili!)
Mirage-Sarabi
Friend/comrade- Rafiki
Hate-Zira
Stink-Nuka
Simpleton-Pumbaa

I just thought it was quite interesting as I didn't know that before.

Nala is not Swahili, but Zulu. A language spoken in South Africa by the Zulu people. It means "luck". I saw once on Ripley's Believe it or Not a girl who was born under life threatning circumstances and since she lived, the family named her Nhalaa (Nala) which the narrator said means "luck" in Zulu. Kovu means Scar.
