What might she thinking to make her smile?

I have noticed something rather odd and disturbing when I was watching the Lion King 2. On the scene where Zira was falling to her watery grave, she appeared to be smiling. I can't make any pictures to show my point, so sorry. Anyway, I kind of wondered why she was smiling moments from death. Animation error, or something else? My thought is that maybe she understood something. What though is a mystery to me. Please help. Thank you.

In the original cut of TLK 2, Zira was to commit suicide. But I guess the creaters thought that wouldn't be appropriate for young fans to see, so they cut that part out, leaving only her slipping off the ledge.

Zira is too proud and stubborn to understand anything. She's smiling because she will be reunited with Scar, and that is what she's wanted all along.

its like yonaka wolf said...originally zira was committing suicide...she looks at kiara when shes trying to help zira and says "no.....never"...smiles and throws herself...so thats where that comes from:!

Wow, its still alive. I never thought that Zira commited suicide. I always thought she figured out something on the future. Kinda like the destruction of the Pride Lands through the 3rd generation of Kovu. But commiting suicide, man that answers some questions.

As many others have said, there was a cut scene, and according to it Zira was commiting suicide. But in that cut-scene, Zira, just before falling, said to Kiara "No... Never!" I don't really understand this. Anyway, great article!

All of us know how Scar died right? He fell off pride rock and the hyenas killed him. But you know when he fell off... Didn't it look similar to when zira fell into the rapids? So maybe that's why she is smiling. Also she knows that she will be with Scar and Nuka.

That's exactly it. In the deleted scene where Zira commits suicide, she lets go of the cliff and falls smiling because she'd rather die than be helped by Kiara. In the finished movie, Zira obviously doesn't let go of the cliff, but they were too lazy to re-draw anything, so the inked-and-colored Zira is smiling for no apparent reason. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoctlRyGdf8
