This article was inspired by a comment from the user Itara on my previous article about who could be Kovu's father.
Well, I admit that Kovu has some similarities with Scar, but he is different enough from him for not to be his son. So, I'm going to introduce you Kovu's original concept below.

This is how Kovu originally looked like, when he was, for sure, Scar's son. Well, he looks almost like a copy of Scar in fact.

This is Kovu in the final movie. It may be just my opinion, but I think that he changed enough for not to have to be, by force, Scar's son. It's just my opinion.
The main problem to this is that I'm extremely conservative in incest matters. If Kovu was Scar's son, that would imply incest, like most people said.
I'm not saying that I don't respect Itara's, or any other user's opinion.
I hope you enjoyed the article.

If kovu were scars sone it wouldn't be incest at all. Kiara and kovu would be second cousins. By law in almost all countries, you can marry incluseively, people related more distantly than your first cousin. Kiara and kovu's relationship wouldn't be incest at all. Incest it, mother and son, father and daughter, brother and sister. Alos, consider that this is lion prides, there is always "inbreeding" |

Kabloomybuzz made a great point. For one thing, lions aren't bound by the rules of inbreeding at all. They're animals. The only real reason the Disney animators tried to avoid that topic was, ultimately, because this was a children's movie and parents would be bound to explode all over the place if Kovu was Scar's son. On that same line, the movie's official positioning for Kovu makes it such that there is NO blood relation with Kiara, if we ignore the incest and any other ties. Scar was mated to Zira, and Zira is Kovu's mother, if we stick with what's implied. That means that, ultimately, Kovu is only related to Kiara and Simba by marriage. No blood involved., especially since Scar isn't intended to be Kovu's father. Kovu is, for all sake of argument, a "bastard child." These family ties are even more spread-out, considering that Zira would have been SIMBA'S aunt by marriage. That makes Kovu Simba's cousin by marriage, if I'm following this correctly. It's harmless. Also, for those of you who are determined to prove that Kovu is Scar's son, there are at least two portions of lines to prove otherwise. One was previously mentioned: the star scene. Kiara tells Kovu about the Great Kings of the Past, and he asks her "D'you think Scar's up there?" He then gets up and moves away, and says "He wasn't my father, but he was still... a part of me." That is meant to point his position as Scar's heir. He wouldn't have had to train or lie or infiltrate the Pridelands if he wasn't elected in that position. Simple, right? The other lines were from the original script and were cut out of the movie because the scene was cut out -- it made the movie flow better. This is the scene, and the link to where this script is found is provided. ZIRA: Kovu! Don't let it go. What's the matter with you? KOVU: But Mother! He wasn't hurting anyone-- ZIRA: There is no room for weakness here, my son. Remember... Scar took you in and accepted you as his own son. KOVU: But he wasn't my father. ZIRA: No... but he chose you to become the next King. When you rule, we shall no longer be forced to live in these dry, barren, disgusting, pathetic, termite-infested Outlands! There's no need for me to point this out. It's all right there in front of you. The lines can be found here, in the scene labelled "Another Cub." http://www.lionking.org/scripts/SP-Script.html This should be more than enough evidence, coupled with the article itself, to prove that Kovu is NOT Scar's son. At one point, he was intended to be, but it was changed in favor of political correctness with the families and consumers who would be watching the movie. |
