Lion King 2, Simba's Pride

My opinion on The Lion King 2, Simba's Pride :

The Lion king 2 is the first sequel of the Lion King, realeased in 1998/99. It came out in video but never on a cinema screen but it doesn’t change the fact that it is an honorable successor.

Simba’s pride (sub-title of the Lion King 2) takes back the story where the first movie had ended, and allow us to follow the adventures of Kiara, Simba’s and Nala’s daughter, who will find a partner, Kovu, son of Scar and Zira. Just like the first part, inspired of Hamlet, this one is a restitution of the famous Shakespeare tragedy: Romeo and Juliette. The main elements of the part are present here and we’ll see that this will alter the way this sequel is realized…

But any D access, let us speak technical. Dimensioned animation: continuation in video obliges, L animation of King Lion 2 N is in any measurement of the level of that of L original. The characters are less drawn goods, miss details and their animation is rather approximate. L use of the colors and L computer N prevents of anything the fact that L animation and the decorations appear often rather unmethodical. However, it remains all the same higher than the average of L animation of this kind of continuations. Main efforts were provided for arisen in dvd so D to improve L image (new effects, 16/9...), which thus made it possible to limit the fact that this continuation is the black bete (with dimensions technique) of the trilogy.

It is noticed on the other hand that the with dimensions sound one was a little neater. The melodies are rather well chosen and do not slice compared to those used in L original. Even if they remain rather traditional, C is D a very good level for a continuation in video. The songs are rather numerous in this film. And as for L original, some are excellent (J have weak for He lives in you, which is for me most beautiful musique/chanson of the trilogy), whereas D different are rather banal and present little D interest for L history. I thus think qu it N was not inevitably necessary D to put as much of it, which is often the trap of this kind of continuations.

But here, I must say that personally, I N did not adore L honor of the tribe. I precise that C is rather personal, and that I agrees very well that D different will be able to think the contaire. The principal defect in my eyes, rests on the fact that the film is presented D a way a little different from the first. Indeed, when I look at the King Lion 2, J have more L impression to see a tinted part of théatre musical, qu a true film D animation like the first. Blow, that gives an effect D exaggeration, which is found on all the levels.

Any D access, scenario N does not have a great defect (good model obliges), but its setting in scene can leave something to be desired. That starts with the characters. Those Ci are in L together stereotyped enough. One notices that characters original find confined with only one character (Simba becomes father hyper-guard, Tiller & Pumbaa are used almost for nothing D other than comedy...), while the new ones are not inevitably very fine (in particular Zira, the large malicious one of service, that J have really evil to see ruminating a spirit of revenge during so much D years without reacting) D different leaves, as of qu one evènement occurs, one sees a setting in scene not possible being set up, and that removes much with the realism of the thing, in my direction. That goes hand in hand with the with dimensions artistic one, because one S apercoit that the colors sharp of the first, are replaced here by colors fluos and decorations which become unmethodical in many scenes, to L instar D a part of théatre, once again...

With too much wanting to make some, this continuation loses a little all with dimensions serious the and realistic one that the first could have, and fall then into traditional a soap will opera.

But that the defects that J could quote do not put you in error. It S acts despite everything D a good continuation, especially for a continuation in video, but which would undoubtedly have gained to lay out D a as great budget as L original, which could undoubtedly have mitigated this effect D exaggeration and this with dimensions draft. Essential for the fans of King original Lion.

To summarize :

Stronge points :
+ Wonderful intro
+ Good musics
+ Respect the original
+ Same voices as in the first
+ Good scenario

Weak points :
- Exageration effects
- Sketchy backgrounds and animation
- Main characters somewhat changed
- Useless songs
